I think the poor guy is just trying to convince himself that all the time
he wasted in college learning "journalism" was not wasted. ToI employs
a lot of people right out of college who know very little about journalism
and even less about writing well. Don't believe me - just read the
ToI - Mumbai edition. It shows. Most of the paper is not worth it's
weight in waste paper (raddi). You get a lot of it about 150-200 pages
in total everyday (inclusive of special/classifieds/Mumbai Mirror).

On another level, he is just trying to save his job :-)
