or that the indian software industry was built on pirated copies of
borland c compilers. (at least in the early days - i don't know how
widespread piracy within the software industry is today...)

indeed, one of the reasons the growth of linux in china is _much_ less
than advertised is that the chinese government doesn't crack down on
pirated software - even within government - as it promises to do.

which goes to show that all the "national security" arguments favouring
linux (popular in china, for some reason i haven't heard them so much in
india) are not reflected in actions as much as in words.
