actually in Vancouver, when taking any flights to the US, the entire
check-in, customs and visa stuff is done here itself. when we get to
the other side we merely sail thru. but we are still international
passengers.

On December 16th, Iberia commenced flights between Gibraltar and
Madrid, which was one of the positives to come out of the Cordoba
Agreement between UK, Spain and Gibraltar earlier in the year. While
this in itself is not newsworthy (except for Gibraltarians), the
interesting tidbit is how they deal with the airport.

Spain has a long-standing claim to Gibraltar airport - different from
its claim to Gibraltar itself. So, now the airport has a terminal on
the Spanish side of the border between Gibraltar and Spain. Spaniards
check-in there, and are taking a domestic flight. Gibraltarians check
in at the old terminal, and are treated as international (albeit
within EU) passengers.

So, Gibraltar airport is the only airport I know of that sits across
an international border. And that Iberia flight is probably the only
point-point flight which has part domestic, part international
passengers.
