Addition: If you're part of a cruise, you can get into Guadeloupe, Aruba in the Dutch Antilles and quite a few other ports in the Caribbean without visas - they just hold your passport on the ship as you disembark and give it back to you when you get back on board.

Also a number of countries have such onerous conditions for visa free travel that it is probably simpler to just get the visa in advance..
