As in? Utopian, barter system, where each one pays for goods/services using mutually agreed upon values for what they produce. Or, situation where someone who is stronger, grabs stuff without asking - more like snatching at gun-point.
Maybe societies started out with the former, but it looks like we are moving towards the latter. Slowly.
