interactively from your browser, use specific interfaces for
aggregation and notification, but in reality they're just
home pages which are refreshed more often. People have
been running blogs before the HTTP protocol was invented.

That's from a technology standpoint. The social dynamics are completely different, and that is what makes blogs interesting.
