With a per capita alcohol consumption of 8.3 litres, Kerala has the
dubious distinction of being India's liquor capital.

I bet they didn't count Sikkim. Every kind of store in Sikkim opens at
10AM shuts down at 5:30PM, not even the markets are spared. But the
liquor stores OTOH are open from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM, and you'll find
a liquor store even in the most hard to find villages that don't have
a regular grocery store. Plus, booze is already cheap.

On the one hand it's funny, but it's also sad to see children no more
than 10 years old sit all day and drink chaang, the local beer until
they graduate to the regular hard stuff. Not that chaang is less
potent, but it's readily available, and culturally accepted as a
drink.

No taboos and cheap liquor, that's not even funny.
