Going on a tangent, at what stage did the ability to produce good music translate into an ability to make money? We are taught to think "Talent should be recognised". That recognition has been translated into a valuation in terms of money. I don't believe that this was always so. Music is often made for the sake of music, and not necessarily for money. Some are good, most (eg: me) are bad. The system works differently in India. Known musicians play free in Lalbagh on Sunday mornings, and at this time of year, in Fort High school Bangalore there is a well known musician playing every evening mostly for a pittance. shiv
