I found the article quite interesting, though some of the reasoning seems alien to me, probably because I am in Kenya and not in the US. I left, because I wanted anonymity, there is a certain pleasure in being away from the familiar, not bumping into a nosy relative or a familiar face at every turn and corner. now, when I visit India to see family and relatives (not friends, since most of them have emigrated to the US ! ), i enjoy a different kind of anonymity, one of me being able to blend into the masses, as just another indian guy. Its not something that is easy to explain to ones parents, since everyone they know of has gone to the US, and done X, Y and Z... most of which involves buying a home-theatre system, visting the statue of liberty, getting a green card and so on, none of which has any relevance to me. Its as if they have been locked out of possible competitive conversations with other relatives and friends whose offspring have settled in the US :)
