In retrospect all my early Linux avatars have been Red hat/Fedora. I think I had some iffy hardware that made my last upgrade painful until Udhay gave me a CD of Hoary Hedgehog which installed like a dream. But I now realise that all my earlier installs of Red Hat were dumb installs in which I had no clue as to what was going in and what I needed. That has changed over the years. When the pain of installation is forgotten the pleasures of Linux become apparent - with automatic consigning of selected text and graphics to an almost inexhaustible clipboard store, lightning fast switching of programs and one program being completely independent of the misbehavior of another. Just for the heck of it I downloaded a virus scanner for Linux and checked. ho hum. shiv
