They can switch back and forth. Certainly means lots of paperwork, new
certificates etc (and they tend to lose sc/st/obc benefits while they're at
it - one criterion for at least a few people)

Another thing is that a lot of the people doing the actual conversions can
be a bit irritating (some of the more enthusiastic variety of Christian
sects - jehovahs witnesses, born again types, mormons and such .. more than
one American who has thrown that variety of irritating SOB off his front
porch before this I guess)

The problem is that a bunch of kind and inoffensive missionaries who are
rather more service oriented than conversion oriented tend to get chased
after by mobs (mostly political mobs) out for a little Christian baiting,
like in the Staines murder some years back
