I am not sure what's so paradoxical here - and I'm not sure I agree with
the (presumed) basis of Shiv's rhetorical question above.
If the intent of Shiv's question was to question the quality of Chinese
manufactured goods, I beg to differ. If one were to devise a metric that
measured some hypothetical "quality unit" and plot that against price
for some Chinese manufactured good chosen at random, I am willing to bet
that China would be #1 in the world on this scale. Note that the WTO
report linked upthread measures absolute volumes of exports.
Of course, the original link also pointed out the advantages China
enjoys that Germany doesn't - like ow wages, the artificially low
exchange rate for the yuan, and weak environmental protection. Not a
simple question. Not simple at all.
