My approach to this is to find a charity whose goals I like, check out that they're reasonably efficient, and then set up an automatic transfer of a smallish amount every month.

This has (at least) two benefits:

- The monthly amount "disappears" from my budget without a lot of impact
- The charity gets to add a dependable stream of income

Development directors really like this.

Every time I get a raise, I revisit the list of charities that I've got on autopay and rebalance/revisit.
