I agree....I think the spreading of fear is as much a weapon of warfare (of any kind) and an instrument of domination, as the threat of physical harm. In fact, I feel that morality is also a way of spreading fear to ensure conformation to societal norms....don't do this, for fear of hellfire...? Yes, I like Crichton's work, too...most of it!
