In the UK "South Asian" is the preferred term used by a Pakistani who does not
want to admit he is of Pakistani origin but cannot, or will not say he is
Indian. Indians have no trouble saying they are Indian.

So the expression "preferred term" is relative. It is preferred by people of
Pakistani origin.

As an aside I have 91 videos on YouTube - mostly relating to wars and the
military. There is a function on YouTune in which you can tell who is
watching what and in what country. the videos being watched in india closely
correlate with videos being watched in California - suggesting (to me) a huge
Indian population there.

And the videos being watched in Pakistan closely correlate with the videos
being watched in the UK - suggesting a huge population of Pakistanis in the
UK.

A comparison with other nations like France, Germany or the Netherlands or
China and Bangladesh show no such correlation.
