I think standard banking practice is to do this via "standing instructions" ...since many banks which operate online also operate manned branches so the same procedures apply online (just the interface recieving the instructions is not human).... for e.g. i have been able to do what you have asked about above by issuing standing instructions to the bank to make "x" transfer to "y" bank on the 15th of every month until "z" date... the transfer is usually done via SWIFT or IBAN instructions...
