What I also remember from ten years ago is that the thin cclient evangelists' last words were that they had indeed succeeded and it was only a matter of time before applications were hosted on the internet and the thin clients would be used to access these. Though this view seems to have been vindicated today, Microsoft still has too much invested in the desktop. It is nice to see Steve Ballmer reduce the time frame from never to about a decade.
