Thanks to all who wrote in. This has saved me a lot of time. I'm getting a D60 for the following reasons (these thoughts are not mine; but a synthesis of all that I've read here and offline - thnx in particular to Thaths and Kiran (Jace)):
1. Image quality of the D60 is as good as the D80 2. It's compatibility with lenses is limited (Vs D80) i.e. AF-S only. But then I'm a beginner who will possibly add only a 18-135 mm to the stock 18-55 mm VR that I get with the D60 kit. It also turns out that there's a pretty impressive list of AF-S lenses available from Nikon. I counted at least 21, spanning 5 categories. 3. The D60 is Rs 17,000 cheaper, so I can have some money left over for the second lens, which I was not planning to buy now... but now can :-) 4. The D60 is much lighter 5. One slight rub: The D80 has faster autofocus. Will this force me to work harder with the D60... some think that this may not be a bad thing for a beginner. Can't get around this one easily save to say, we'll see if this becomes a pain later.. Adit.
