Not all Muslims require halal, and that explanation while facile
doesn't make sense to me. Muslims are less than 20% of the population
no? Why isn't there at least one Chinese restaurant that will serve
of the population yes.. of the "non vegetarian" population? they're a
substantially larger fraction, you'll find.
and a lot of the butchers tend to be muslims and so wont handle pork
and the pork you get in india, unless you pick and choose carefully, is
likely to be one of the black pigs you see in slums, surviving off garbage
piles ..
Hey, I like goat. There's a Vietnamese place here in Sydney that
specializes in goat. (See, why can't I say something like that about
Bangalore? Isn't there SOME ethnic minority making their exotic native
cuisine mostly for each other somewhere in Bangalore?)
they probably cook it at home .. only to get outraged neighbors protesting
about "the stink". sigh .. seen that before :(
Shhh, don't tell the Bangaloreans but Debbie and I *love* Keralan
cuisine. Fresh ingredients, liberal use of coconut milk, lots of fresh
seafood. Yum yum yum. Of all the Indian regional cuisines we liked it
best. Even better than Andhra, and I'm a serious chili head.
ah. kerala, andhra .. i am sure you havent tried mangalorean / goan
cuisine? drop by Mahesh Lunch Home in bombay (or maybe kokum in chennai)
sometime.
Andhra cuisine at its best can be very tasty indeed - but as a dyed in the
wool hyderabadi I've got biryani in my blood and the vepudu / pulusu etc
type stuff is right off the menu if there's a decent hyderabadi biryani
available (and there's none available in madras, which is all of one hour
away by air. sigh..)
