I wish everyone understood that rule as well as you do. It always annoys me when someone uses it (most often condescendingly) to condemn whatever behaviour does not conform to their warm and fuzzy and inaccurate notion of what ad hominem means (which is usually something along the lines of "being mean and nasty"). -- ams
