Pulp fiction...what about all the Nick Carter books, that my brother would riffle through to find "the bits"? When I was in Chennai, I realized that there was a huge market for people to write Tamizh pulp novels; I was friends for a while with a young woman who churned them out regularly; I was amazed at how low her payment was! Not as bad, though, as the payment to the artists who drew the lurid cover illustrations... Deepa
