I read Heyer for basically the same reason I read PGW. The language, the

semi-to-full-fledged-farce, and the comfort of the same story over and

over again.


Guilty. Georgette Heyer is among my favourites, too, and I agree (bad 
word on this list) with Udhay about the reasons why I read it...and I do
 savour all the "period" (as in dated, you dirty-minded lot) expressions
 and idioms.....

Incidentally, her details were spot on, from textile descriptions to Astley's 
to vouchers for Almacks, to the Richmond extravaganza, to Plantagenet Britain, 
to Norman France, to Spain in the Peninsular Wars - the whole bloody lot. Down 
to the small detail of agricultural holdings. Amazing.
