Because the public is willing to trade control over their lives for
convenience, the cellphone already doubles as a tracking device, and
raises the possibility of "spatial micromanagement"
There seems to be relatively high awareness of these issues. I sell
an equine training/health monitoring system that, among other
features, provides internet-based trackability and instantaneous data
readout, and what I find interesting is that even non-horsey people
latch on pretty quickly to this point even though it's a relatively
small component of the entire system.
Almost always this capability is perceived as a feature and not as a
bug; I've heard just as often from people who'd like their spouse to
be able to follow along when they ride alone as the inverse, and for
competitions it seems that the promise of extra television coverage
is enough to convince people the additional equipment* is worth using.
Obviously it would be nice to put in some finer-grained sharing
control, but we haven't had the bandwidth to tackle that just yet...

* traditional equestrian equipment needs some maintenance, but not
overnight recharging. anyone here know of a nice usb-interface
kinetic energy harvester?
