Oh, from http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1293844

I do like and 100% agree with what this guy has to say ..

"Does your current machine grind beans or do you use pre-ground?

If you buy pre-ground beans, then they are stale. This accounts for them
tasting bad.

If you buy whole beans from a supermarket they are stale. See above.

If you buy beans from any shop that cannot tell you the date they were
roasted, then they are stale. See above.

You WILL get a decent cup of coffee from the machine you have if you
feed it good quality FRESH beans. Roasted within the last couple of weeks.

Fresh beans are obtainable from specialist roasters, and some good
coffee shops. Or online from places such as www.coffeesnobs.com.au

They cost no more than the stale beans you buy at Coles or Safeway.

Don't waste a$1000 unless you prove to yourself that your machine is no
good.

The advice on the coffee sobs site tells you that good beans and a good
grinder is a more important tool than a good coffee machine. Have a read
and you'll be improving your brew in a very short time. Buy their beans
(or beans of similar quality and freshness) and you will be a happier
person."
