I don't know if Ford meant it to mean anything, or just picked a 'cute Italian word'. What the car is can be explained rather more easily.
A small light peppy hatchback, very affordable, yet pleasant to drive, not too powerful, sufficient for city traffic but also not entirely unsuitable for medium length journeys (300 kms? 500 kms?) on Indian highways of startlingly different quality.
