Here is a more detailed report http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/report_why-did-richard-loitam-die-too-many- versions-out-there_1682924 The police on Sunday claimed that the scuffle between Loitam and a hostel mate had been over the very two-wheeler on which Loitam had met with an accident earlier. Soon after his death, it had been reported in the media that the two had fought over watching an IPL match on television. SP (Bangalore Rural) D Prakash told journalists that Loitam and his friend Vishal Banerjee had fought over a scooty on the night of April 17.They were said to have chipped in money to buy the vehicle. Prakash said the quarrel took place in the hostel at 8.30 pm. The previous day (April 16), Loitam—a student of Acharya NRV School of Architecture—had taken the vehicle out with his friend Spoorthy Ranjan. They met with an accident near Saptagiri Hospital. After receiving treatment for injuries, the two returned to the hostel. Banerjee was furious when he saw the damaged vehicle. He met Loitam in the hostel, and asked him why he took the vehicle out when his driving skills were poor. The two had heated arguments and Loitam reportedly grabbed Banerjee. The latter's friend Syed Afjal Ali came to his rescue and punched Loitam hard in the face, causing immediate injury to his left eye. Other students Vishesh Gupta, Shreyas Shetty and Mishal Mustafa intervened and pulled them apart. Loitam returned to his room 225 and reportedly told his roommates Nikhil and Sourabh that doctors had advised him a week's rest and that he would not attend classes the next few days. He went to sleep at 11.30 pm. His roommates found him dead on April 18, and alerted the hostel supervisor Sudhakar, who called the police. In his complaint with the police, Sudhakar said Loitam died either due to the injuries he suffered in the road accident, or from the punches he received from Ali. shiv
