I think you have just put your finger on the nub, or hit the nail on the head, or whatever metaphor you want to employ...the difference between reading something as information, and knowing, or understanding, it as knowledge. In my case, I gave up trying to understand this explanation of "temperature"...to me, it is (and to any mother of a child, probably it always will be!) the level of mercury in a nice old-fashioned thermometer! -the Dinosaurus
