Not being in IT or in Linux or in FOSS, I too got to know him more indirectly....through his staunch support of wildlife photography (and at least one wildlife photographer.) I got to know him better after he'd "mellowed down". So my interaction with him was very pleasant....I found a lot to be impressed about.
My heart goes out to his family...to lose him so early must be agony. Deepa.
