Its fairly common, my wife learned English, Hindi and Kannada in school and is fluent in all 3. She learned Malayalam at home and Tamil from the neighbourhood and is fluent in both of those too. In Bangalore that list doesn't raise eyebrows though monolingual me is fairly mindboggled. -- b
