Every pack has a motion sensor on it.

If you don’t move, it starts to make an irritating sound. If you don’t then
move, the sound gets louder. If you don’t then move it gets really really loud.
This is so that if a firefighter goes down, you can find them by listening.

However, a side effect is that at fire scenes where people are just standing
around, there are lots of low-lever warnings going off. When yours goes off,
you just wiggle a little & it shuts up. If you don’t realize that it’s your
pack that’s making the noise, you soon will, because your buddies will start
smacking your helmet & saying “it’s you! Shake your ass!”

I’m not aware of any other telemetry, but I’m sure that other departments,
especially big city departments, have fancier stuff. We also use regular radio
communication so Command knows how things are going on the interior.
