Tons actually.

There is original writing and then there are translations.

Original

   1. Check Aniruddha Sen Gupta and Anshumani Ruddra for game books and
   mystery books.
   2. Scholastic India has an incredible list of books divided by age
groups: http://scholastic.co.in/ They also have book clubs and
   children's book fairs.
   3. Sampurna Chattarji has published a nice range of children's books -
both poetry and fiction: The Fried Frog and Ela
   4. The classic Malgudi Days by RK Narayan
   5. Pika Nani's Little Indians
   6. Samhita Arni has done some nice work with Sita's Ramayana (a feminist
perspective at 10 would certainly enhance your son's world view)
   7. While at it, also check your Navayana Publications' Gond art
illustrated Bhimayana - a book on Ambedkar's life by Durgabai Vyam and
Subhash Vyam: http://navayana.org/product/bhimayana/ (and so would
   understanding the dalit perspective)
   8. Anushka Ravishankar (is also editor of Tara Books)
   9. I am also a big fan on Devdutt Patnaik's children's books

Translations

   1. You absolutely must get your son to read Sampurna's translation of
the Sukumar Ray classic Abol Tabol: The Nonsense World of Sukumar Ray.
   2. Check the Tara Books' and Katha books' rosters for translations of
   Indian language books

Hope this gives you a good start.

R
