I have had this happen several times. It was always by ""accident"", when I wasn't paying attention to details, when I was just getting started in making silver colloid. I threw it out and stuck to the details, and the next batch was invariably correct.
When you use the mountain water, it will have other things in it. There will be minerals, and possibly even chemicals nowadays. More variables. I stick with distilled. It is more dependable. You could use a an activated charcoal filter system (or something else) to further purify the water. There are compact water purification systems by KATADYNE and PUR that work extremely well. They fit in your backpack. Survivalist/Camping stores usually carry these. They can be a bit pricey, but there are small models that are under $50 dollars.
