If you upgrade that upper popsicle stick to something about a quarter inch thick (~6mm) and make tight fitting holes, you won't need to do anything to keep the electrodes apart at the bottom. The trick is to experiment with drill size until you get a good press fit for your wire. Or just glue them into a loose hole with some silicone sealer. I suspect that anything in the water will get "plated" with silver pretty quickly and probably will start shorting the 'lectrodes. Mike D.
