Thanks much. I was pleased and surprised to find such a wealth of info.
Don't got to any trouble to find the cites unless they have something
useful for the current problem.

One of the basic problems must be the wide range of particle sizes in
typical sols; it is probably easier to determine the size if all particles
are the same size.

I'll get back to you about those references James, once I find time to
visit
the library.
There are a number of ways to determine particle size that I know of, but
dont know much about, perhaps some one on the list can fill in the details.
1. Laser Doppler Velocimetry
2. Acoustic Spectrocoscopy 10nm - 10um
3. Dynamic Light Scattering 3nm - 6.5um
4. Scanning Prope Microscopy STM & AFM (Atomic Force Microscope resolution
0.1nm or below)
5. UV photoluminescence
6. Photon Correlation Spectroscopy - 1nm - 5um (which looks promising)
7. Light scattering electrophoresis
8. Diffusional particle sizing

There are, without doubt, other methods and some which supply particle
information as an incidental to other measurements ie Zeta Potential etc.

I would love for someone to hand me the list of spectra for ultrafine
silver
particles of specific sizes 200 - 0.1nm or the constants for silver
particle
electrophoresis, that might happen you know, if Santa is listening.

Ivan
