Careful here, Bruce! Hello Reinhard!

If the "milkiness" you see is indeed like what you'd get if you put
a little bit of milk in a glass of water, but otherwise you can see
through it, then you're seeing light scattered from the colloid.

It's common to test for the "Tyndall" effect, in which you shine a
small flashlight or a laser pointer through the CS. You *should* see
the beam, sort of like seeing the rays of the sun coming through the
clouds due to scattering from dust and water vapor in the sky.

If you hold the glass against a darker background and shine light on 
it from over your shoulder it will tend to look milky, as you 
describe.

If the cloudiness is of the murky or muddy type, then it's likely 
caused by the "sludge" from the cathode getting mixed in with the 
colloid, as Bruce suggests. The solution to that is to clean the 
electrodes more often during the process and perhaps not to try to 
make your CS so concentrated.
