It will work only for systems with absolutely no date sensitive software, such as my home PC if I do nothing but run older games on it.
Obviously all business accounting, scheduling, payroll, banking, mailing, insurance/benefit, production, shipping, recieving, air conditioning, heating, and every other kind of software has to deal with the real world and is dependent on knowing if it is Monday or Sunday, or if it is a leap year, and what date you were hired so I so vacation time can be figured out and retirement benefits can be figured. Set the clock back 10 years and lose 10 years of retirement benefits! Your friend did not go through much of a thinking process if he came up with "set the clocks back!" Take this problem very seriously. Don't hesitate to store food and clothing.
