Reversing the electrodes will help them to disolve at a more equal rate, but you would have to stop the process and switch them every minute or so to have a chance at keeping the buildup off, and I'm not too sure that would work or even be a good idea. What would you be making if you had some of the black buildup on both electrodes??? Also, I always stir my water just before putting the electrodes in.
