Carl, The subject of microwave ovens comes up periodically on the list because people use them to heat their water to make CS. There is concern for some that microwaves will have residual ill-effects on the water that will influence the outcome of making CS from it.
The evidence of problems from microwaving plain water is *not* as convincing nor intuitively as easy to believe as damage to foodstuffs, certainly. *HOWEVER* the concern is serious to those who are trying to be as cautious as possible. As such, it is one of those side issues to CS that we will touch from time to time so that the readers may make their *own* decisions. If it doesn't concern you, then you can safely ignore it. As to the "spammish" nature of Susan's posting, I have to note that we're in a lull at the moment and Susan's other contributions are certainly not objectionable. I hope we can tolerate this use of bandwidth. Given the topic connection explained above, I would have approved it even if I was in full-tyrant-moderation mode. A list that is totally free of spam and flame wars will still always contain a certain amount of noise for *each* participant. We're not all working on the same piece at the same time.
