I've sent messages to ryb twice, on April 1 and again on April 9, asking him to tone down his rhetoric and warning him that I have received complaints. I acknowledged his positive contributions and asked him to limit himself to comments which add to the discussion and refrain from his aggressive criticism. I urged him to accept the fact that we are here to discuss *all* the available options, and to let others pursue their chosen interests unmolested. By his responses he has demonstrated to me that he is intractable in his attitude, and unable or unwilling to modify his conduct to account for the feelings and sensibilities of others on the list. Therefore, I have modified the list settings to reject further postings from him. I will leave it that way until I am satisfied that he will not further disrupt things if he is allowed to return. If ryb wishes to unsubscribe he should let me know. If someone, other than I, wants to act as gatekeeper for his contributions and filter out repetitive and argumentative content, they are welcome to do so. Reid, I am especially saddened to know that he is indeed trying to contribute to the effort. It has been my feeling all along that ryb means well. That has been why I have moved so slowly to censure him. But I do *not* receive complaints about nor see irritated replies to other people's postings, so I have to assume that his behavior is responsible for the effect. Yes, each of the hundred and fifty something subscribers to the list has the option of deleting his posts or putting him in their kill-files. I, however, think that would be unfair to ask. I hope that Reid and any others who may feel sympathy for ryb will accept my action in the spirit in which it is taken. If anyone can encourage or propose a better solution I am more than willing to listen. I would like further discussion of this subject to occur off-list unless you really can't contain yourself.
