Hi List!

This is from Doug Stewart. At some point he's unsubbed. I think we
scared him away. OOPS! Still, I think the right message got through.

No self-flagellation, please. Y'all have enough to do without wasting
your energy on hand wringing. On the tail end of last weeks'
difficulties with Mr. Crowcroft, I can understand us all still being
a little jumpy.

But, next time, and *every* time, we need to treat new people as if
they have a sincere desire to know the truth, and try to meet them
where they are.

Blessings, all.

Be well,

Mike D.

Mike,

Here is an e-mail that I sent to Michael Anthony. If you would share
it with the silver-list, I'd appreciate it.

Doug Stewart

I have unsubscribed from the silver-list. But I've been affected by
this list. I am blessed. I have not suffered like most of you. My
day-to-day worries are slight. So I don't understand the way your
community talks to each other (or your humor).

My short exposure to you and the list has helped me make a decision.
My recommendation to the person who is building CS generators is to
create a web site devoted to helping people find more knowledge and
to share knowledge about CS. I will also recommend that the engineer
becomes active on this list and that he promotes this list.

If he chooses to promote his generator on the web site, fine. But
his web site should bridge the knowledge and understanding gap on CS.
His generator should be a secondary concern. The web site should tell
true stories like yours. People and knowledge first. Commerce second.

I will only build his web site should he agree to this approach. The
web is full of noise and clatter. Another person jumping up and down
shouting about curing 650 ailments with their magic electro-magnetic
gizmo will not make the web a better place. But a community sharing
their experiences and knowledge will help. He should provide a place
to give and share knowledge and experiences. If he does that well,
and his product truly lives up to his claims, then he'll do allright.
