Time to switch!
What ratio of DMSO and CS do I use?
I have my husband use a mix of closer to 50/50 CS/DMSO for a herpes cold
sore. We normally use a much lower dilution (1/9) for most purposes.
For oils, if you want to still use essential oils on the sores, my oil
book says bergamot, tea tree, lavender, and camomile can all be used for
herpes sores instead of or in addition to eucalyptus oil. It recommends
alternating oils, and also says one can combine two or more oils.
Before we knew about CS and DMSO, I did have my husband use essential
oils on the cold sores. Though those were more effective than any other
topical he had tried up to that point, once he started using CS/DMSO on
them he has completely abandoned the essential oils. CS/DMSO has been
much more effective, and has actually greatly reduced the number of
outbreaks, and as I posted earlier it has brought back the nerves. The
sores never get as bad, and heal so much faster. At least part of that
is that he once again has nerve sensations, and so can catch the
outbreaks at a far earlier stage. When he had no nerve sensations at all
he didn't know he was even getting a sore until one would appear full-blown.
Thanks to whoever it was who pointed out that peanuts are one of the
highest arginine foods. Somewhere my husband had got the idea they were
one of the lowest arginine nuts. I went to the USDA site and confirmed
that peanuts are indeed very high arginine, and he is devastated, LOL,
as he has a serious peanut additcion. But he will now either eat fewer
peanuts, or make sure to up his Lysine intake when he does eat them.
