When we start seeing comments like the above, it's time for a few of 
you to take stock of your behavior.

I DO NOT WANT my members reluctant to say anything at all because 
they're afraid somebody else is going to pick apart their message and 
tell them that their terminology is wrong, their wording imprecise, and 
their grammar flawed. GOT IT YOU GUYS!?

Don't burden lay people with technical minutiae, nor critique others' 
attempts to make ideas clear in simple language because it may not be 
perfectly "precise." Precision to the exclusion of understanding is not 
a virtue here.

Don't try to be flippant or cute... "Just joking" almost never works in 
the arid medium of plain text. Then we end up with people striking back 
when your attempt at a humorous jibe comes across as hostility.

Think welcoming, friendly, considerate, gentle, supportive... Those are 
the kinds of words that describe the climate we should be trying to 
maintain here. 

Step back and think about what you're doing. As suggested above, cut 
people some slack.
