The problems of America's industrial agricultural system are profoundly illustrated in

I strongly recommend it.

I read the complete article, slow and carefully, trying to digest it thoroughly.

Surprisingly, I knew most of that already from studies of world population, land use and many related things. Of course I did not know all the specifics and numbers he had in the article.

Of course he did a great job or collecting the information and presenting it to people that have been in the dark on this subject.

The problem and the disaster has existed for a number of years, and will not likely get better.

Over the years, I have hunted much different terrain to include
lush swamps, timber land cut over, some of the most worthless land in the world it appeared, and some land that was in fact still in good condition.

Being aware of soil value, soil conditions, and the many disasters to the land, I always studied them from a view that few hunters and hikers are capable of doing.

In many cases, I actually collected soil samples, brought them home, and sent them to the state soil labs for testing.

Generally, the test showed exactly what I thought, what I had figured out with eyeball and instinct.

One does not have to be too smart to tell the difference in Soil, Rocks, Sand, and Wasteland.

Yes, I have seen a lot of what he described. I have watched large tractors in Texas plowing 300, 500, and 1000 acre fields.

One of the larger wheat field I found there was 1.5 miles by 1.75 miles.

I wished I could calculate the cost to plant that field, wheat seed, fertilize, and oil cost, ........ but I could not do it. In my home state, and my experience with farming, no fields exist that large.

Of course I could do some research and calculate the cost.
But I wanted to do it then and there with mental data. I had no data stored that would allow me to do it. darn ! Another gap in my knowledge.

I guess I could ask the farmer. I did meet and talk with a few of the large farmers there.

I could think of 1000 questions relative to all that.

Now we all have something else to worry about.

I guess we can thank you for that. <grin>
