I am copyng out this newspaper article in today's paper, as I remember
sometime in the past questions were asked in the Aspergillus Group re
Colloidal
Silver. I copy without comment for your information:

"The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration - regulator for Australian
medicines stated today:

"People are accidentally poisoning themselve with a homemade silver
substance in the mistaken belief it has therapeutic benefits, the medicines'
regulator has warned.

Colloidal silver - tiny particles of mettallic silver suspended in liquid -
is sold in Australia through a legal loop-hole, but can cause argyria, a
condition which turns the skin permanently blue grey.

Other toxic effects of ingesting silver can include nerve damage, seizures,
and problems with blood, heart, liver and kidney functioning.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration said there was no evidence to
substantiate continuing claims that colloidal silver conferred medical or
nutritional
benefits. The TGA's adverse drug reactions advisory committee has received
four reports of people poisoning themselves after making the substance using
an
electronic device called a "colloidal silver generator" that can easily be
bought over the internet.

In the most serious case, an elderly man who drank colloidal silver every
day for six months was taken to hospital with exhaustion, amnesia, incoherent
speech, a weakened and enlarged heart and blue skin.

A boy 5, who ingested the liquid, every day for several months, developed a
grey skin and tongue, and his liver stopped working properly.

Each patient was found to have far higher concentrations of silver in their
bloodstream than was normal.

The TGA said no products containing colloidal silver were approved for
marketing in Australia, but colloidal silver generators were exempt from
regulation because they did not make therapeutic claims.

It said patients should be strongly discouragged from using products made
with the generators.

"Patients should be advised of the lack of evidence for therapeutic benefit
and the potential for toxicity associated with colloidal silver preparations"
the TGA said.
