To test the water, you will need to buy a meter. The better one is a
conductivity meter, I have an HM COM 100 I bought from the silverpuppy
site for around 55 bucks or so. It reads a bunch of different settings,
but the one I use is just the conductivity, in micro Seimans (uS, which
is approximately analogous to PPM). There are also Total Dissolved
Solids meters, which are cheaper by a bit, but then you have to
multiply the reading by 2 to get ppm, or uS.
Then you need some good pure silver- at least .999, which is 99.9
percent silver, usually better than 99.9. There is 99.99 % silver you
can get from www.atlasnova site ( I think?). I got mine from a
jewelry supply store in my town, 12 gauge is a good diameter. The
Canadian Silver dollars are pure silver, 99.99, so if you have access,
you can buy those.
I use 3 nine volt batteries I hook together, and some wires with clips
on the ends to hook up to the silver. I got a margerine lid, and poked
the silver wire through it , just under 2 inches apart, put an old
pickle jar through the dishwasher a few times, then scrubbed it with a
new green scotchbrite pad, and rinsed with distilled water a few times.
Then, just fill with distilled water, hook everything up, and she's
making cs. Check the instructions if you do it this way. The
instructions on the silvermedicine.org site worked good for me, when I
didn't have any meters. Now that I have the com 100, I just run it for
the approx amt of time, and test it to see where we are at.
The other really good idea is to go to the surplus store and get a
potentiometer (mine is maybe 75ohms or whatever) to put in there to
keep the current under control, so it does not get too many particles.
You don't have to have this, but if you do, you get a better brew, and
you don't have to watch it so carefully, you can basically ignore it
for periods of time.
If you like math, here it the equasion: PPM = kAt
amount of water is one liter.
k is the constant for metal electrolysis, and the figure for silver is
0.001118
A is the amps, aka current flow, in milliamps (mA). you can read it on
a multimeter if you have one.
t equal time in seconds, so one hour would be 3600 seconds.
With my potentiometer, I set it to run at .8mA max, and it reaches that
in about 2 hours usually with one liter or quart of water. Then it
takes more hours to get up to 10ppm.
so for 5 hours ppm= (0.001118) ( 0.80mA) ( 3600 sec) ( 5 hours)=
16.0992 plus the silver from the amount of time it takes to get up to
speed. there is a handy application someone wrote that you can plug in
figures and times and it spits out the answer, but it is a windows app,
and I run a mac.
Cheers,
Kathryn

hi all,
i received the links and wanted to thank everyone. i have decided i
want to make the silver. in that i wanted to know if anyone has any
information to help me, need to know about the distilled water and how
to test it to make sure it is correctly done and have the right water,
any kind of tools i need meters testers etc and how to overall make
the cs
