I was told that all colloids begin life as an ion.
That is likely true, and certainly true for EIS ( CS ).

Dear Linda,
You write:
So, with my three little 9 volt batteries am I making ionic silver or
colloidal silver?
Yes!
<LOL!>
Okay, now I'll behave myself and explain:
If you're using distilled water with no additives, the product will
be a mixture of some fraction of colloidal particles and ions. The
ratio will vary widely depending on the details of your setup, but
we've never really found a way to make CS that wasn't effective.
The perpetual debate between the partisans of ionic and particulate
preparations is so much puffery, as far as I'm concerned. Both
fractions are helpful, and having both at the same time makes the
most sense.
Other people will, of course, tell you that only one works, and that
the other doesn't, or is even dangerous -- depending on which one
they happen to be selling, of course.
Just when I think I know I see something else that
confuses me.
I think there's a profound thought lurking in that statement!
<grin>
Be well,
Mike D.
