Bush takes blame without protest.
I've not seen him point a finger to those who really did the screwing
up...not that he's never screwed up. [EVERYBODY screws up ]
People place all the power on his head making him king.
If a king isn't perfect, he must be evil.
Then when he doesn't have that power, he gets the blame and the label.
BAD king!
We know you made that hurricane and made all those local politicians
beautify the levies with their matching Fed funds instead of maintaining
and beefing them up.
Despite the law and impossible conditions, the national guard should have
invaded in an instant despite those who could have given timely permission
but didn't.
How DARE you not be more perfect than us!

Yea, I want to see "the people" in charge of the stampede with total power
and no one to blame.

Just stick a sheep in front of you, call it a pig and follow along as usual.
Last I looked, no one has ever turned down a pork barrel project in their
area and keep electing those that hand them the most pork.
Well, that only does what it does, now doesn't it?
The FDA was formed to get a handle on Cocaine and Opium Patent Medicine
salesmen.
Their job was to ensure drug safety because the people were too dumb to
not buy into that stuff and needed that protection.
When the funds to do the job independently didn't materialize, they went
to the only ones mandated to obey them that could make those funds available.
In bed with the Devil, by default, again.
But who keeps on buying those drugs?
Stop doing that and both the Pharm and the FDA will fall on its face.
But then, there would be NO one to protect us, however badly, from our own
gullibility.
That which is regulated is bad, therefore any Patent Medicine salesmen is
good, especially if he doesn't tell you what he's selling you and only can
do that by way of purposeful loopholes in the FDA rules that lets it turn
the blind eye.
Similarly, The Products Safety Commission only has around 1,000 people to
inspect and test millions of tons of products deluging the borders because
that's what people buy, but Bush gets the blame for not spending billions
to hire the millions that doing that job would take...even though he simply
doesn't have the power to hire anyone but his own staff and a few judges
that have to meet approval.
A president can make proposals but cannot pass any laws or direct any
funds. He can only *attempt* to stop them.
He can call out the troops but can't *keep* them out there.
Let's just say that speed limits make people into careless lead foots.
Not to worry...
Next year we'll have another perfect punching bag and everything will be
different.
...maybe we'll even wind up with a "real" king under the guise of a
declared "National Educational Emergency Decree" [ N.E.E.D. ]
A president can declare a national emergency. Thanks to Katrina and
local power defaults and Bush NOT deflecting blame back to where it
belonged, he might even get away with calling the national guard into a
state without their permission.

control by default."

True. Only under this admin the FDA is like a runaway train. In its path
