The Article mentioned Dr. Jarvis, there is a book out and can be found in the library, it is called Vermont Folklore Medicine, by Dr. Jarvis. I once owned a copy and somehow someone borrowed it and kept it. He documents great success and etc., using pure apple cider vinegar, there was during the great plague, a formula, called the three thieves cure. Long story, the skinny, three thieves were caught looting homes that people died of the plague. They never got the plague. They were caught and were about to be hanged, however, they were allowed to live if they divulge the secret how they did not get the plague. It was the use of simple dowsing their clothes and drinking pure apple cider vinegar. I am sure you can find this on line.
