You are describing exactly the symptoms I had for years.[I am 83 1/2 yrs
now].I went through all the regular treatments the Drs. had in their bags
of tricks and they only made things worse.It turns out I had LOW stomach
acid, not too much acid.I can't begin to count the times I woke up choking
on stomach contents;bile,undigested food,etc.
I now have Barretts' Aesophagus and Hiatal Hernia too.
BUT; I found the answer to stop all this misery.I got BETAINE
HCL[Hydro-Chloric Acid] with Pepsin, capsules,500 mgs.
The regimen was this;
I Started with one 500 mg capsule 15 minutes before meal.
Next meal 2 caps.15 min. prior.
Next meal 3 caps 15 min.prior.
I kept increasing until I felt a slight peppery burning in my stomach
area.Then backed off one [1] capsule.
The change for good was almost immediate, the misery abated and now I
rarely have to do this, as I also modified my diet drastically
I had to reach 9 caps before I felt this peppery feeling.I backed off and
settled on 7.I used this protocol for a time,until the bad sessions
became less in number and then ceased.
I absolutely WILL NOT TAKE THOSE PPIs again.ie
Prilosec,Losec,Tagamet,Prevacid,etc.
As far as I'm concerned they are deadly.
PPIs:- Proton Pump Inhibitors.
Forget the operation;will not cure anything.My Surgeon Dr. said an
operation on the Aesophagus would most likely end up me being fed thru a
tube for the rest of my life.
The above protocol sure has turned my life around,I can assure you.
You might look into Heli-cobacter Pylori;the stomach ulcer cause.It has
the ability to make bicarb-of soda which neutralizes stomach acid thereby
compounding the problem.
It so happened that I had this H-Pylori too.

I was woken up this morning aspirating on my own saliva. I grabbed a
kleenex next to the bed and spit out this nasty, bile tasting stuff that
was a blackish-brown color. This is about the third time this has
