Greetings Fabulous CSers, Passing on a small bit of a problem. Several weeks ago the teenage friend of my teen had a flat tire on his pick-up and managed to make it to our house. The tire was ruined. He didn`t have a spare or tools to change the wheel. We live in a small country town. It was late on Saturday afternoon and everything was closed. We did find a usable tire in the old tire pile behind the local garage and attempted to replace the ruined tire with the old tire until Monday, when he could get a new one. Well guess what? No ones open until Monday and we didn`t even have the most basic of tire changing tools. We couldn`t even break the bead loose on the tire with a 15 lb sledge hammer, almost got it in the head when it bounced back. We did find a guy who was a friend of a guy in a town forty miles down the road that would open up his shop on Sunday, but we had to take the wheel to him. So whats the point of this. Suppose there is no power, no electricity, no pneumatic tools running on electric air compressers, no gas engine compressers out of gas because the gas pumps don`t work (they are electric). In a natural or man made disaster (Y2K, quake, ice storm, Terrorist bomb on electric system, etc.) we couldn`t even replace a tire, such a basic thing. Right away we ordered a set of basic tire tools from the Northern catalog. Got tire spoons for $4.95 each (takes two) and a bead breaker for $14.99. Next time we will be ready to change a tire on our own if we have to. Just a few simple 1930`s tools. Be prepared.
Oh yes, the teens mom bought him a spare tire and wheel and tools to change it. :-) Are you ready to change a tire, got the tools to do it! Don`t wait for the gov to come and feed you.
